3 OUT OF 10: Episode 5 “The Rig Is Up” – Review (PC)
Season one is finally ending and it’s starting to feel like Terrible Posture Games has something pretty special here. Each episode brings more and more depth to the cast of characters and becomes more accessible to those of us that aren’t in the world of game developing.
Episode 5 doesn’t pull any punches. Pylon wakes up with a pretty big problem… he can’t see his face. Like, it’s completely gone. He’s left with what appears to be a floating mouth and eyeballs. In an attempt not to panic and seek medical attention, he realizes that his insurance card is inside the office building, which means he needs to enter unnoticed, get the card and head to the doctors. Easier said than done as he quickly realizes that his card isn’t where he thought he left it. Unfortunately for him this means not making it out of the building before their morning meeting as he intended. This leads to everyone questioning his appearance. He has on a ski mask, but they all think he’s a spy pretending to be Pylon. This leads everyone to overreact and a mini-game where Viper is trying to take you out and you have to do everything in your power to avoid his attacks.
After jumping out the window – with the help of Midge – Pylon and Kevin head to the doctors in an attempt to heal his missing face. One misadventure after another and suddenly they are on their way to Canada. A mini-game set up like a dungeon crawler will send Pylon searching for a magic key and the door it fits that will lead him to the magical world of Canada and the free healthcare that awaits… and the long lines and purgatory that one must go through in order to receive this “free” healthcare. This may be the most humorous piece of the entire season. Every joke lands perfectly and we were laughing out loud at them for quite some time.
Starting to lose hope once he’s kicked out of Canada for being an American, Pylon heads home for one last attempt to recover his face. The mini-game in which you try to find his face may be the most fun gameplay in the series and is a wild pinball game where you bounce the balls off Pylon’s face and collect enough stars to hopefully bring back his flesh and bones, or at least make them visible again.
While we can’t reveal all of the twists and turns that this final episode of the season takes, it’s shaping up to make the next season even more exciting. It’s too bad that we don’t know more about the overall story and that each episode really seems to stand on its own, so we will wait patiently for next season and some clarity around all the mystery surrounding this terrible studio.
