Baron: Fur is Going to Fly – PAX East Preview
Baron is a high flying party game about a plethora of cute critters battling in World War 1 style biplanes.
The goal of this game is to simply last the longest. You and up to seven friends have the option of eight different critters. The cat, the bear, and the snake are among our favorites. Even though they are only aesthetically different, it sure is fun to watch the different animals fly. Each cast member is also accompanied with a unique song that plays when you conquer your fellow pilots.
In addition to choosing a character you also get to decide on a vessel. Even though during our play we didn’t get to experience them all the developer had mentioned how the planes do perform differently.
Lastly, and most ridiculously you decided on a weapon. As if a game about animals flying plains wasn’t outlandish enough, the weapon selections are next level unorthodox. Rotting fish, freeze rays, and flamethrowers are among the ten unique weapons.
Once in a match the controls are fun and easy to pick up. With only three or so buttons to be responsible for at any given time. Baron excels in the way of easy to learn gameplay. The game also incorporates a physics system that is straight forward and easy to pick up after playing a few rounds. The simple controls and uncomplicated mechanics make it a breeze for even the least experienced gamer. We got the chance to play with four other players but could easy see the whole family playing along.
Aesthetically, the game speaks for itself. The character design mixed with the WW1 themes make for an interesting dynamic.
Many of the characters are celebrities of some sort in their world. This is the biggest reason why the newspaper themes are so prevalent.
Overall, Baron is a fine game. It is fun when being played solo but is best coop. This game is set to release Q2 or Q3 of 2019.
