As predicted by us right here at Handsome Phantom, Gears of War had a huge showing this year on the Microsoft stage. They didn’t have just one game announced, but three. That’s right… three new Gears games are coming your way. The first was a mobile game based on their Pop figures on and teaming up with Funko Gears of War Pop. This will be the first mobile game in in franchise history for Gears and it will be some time before you’ll have the chance to play it since it does not launch until 2019 on the Apple and Android devices.
The next game announced was just a brief teaser for a PC tactics game set in the Gears of War universe called Gears of War Tactics. In the vein of other tactics games and even Halo Wars, Gears of War Tactics is also a first in the franchise history.
The big finale for Gears was the reveal of the next entry in the series proper, Gears 5. This time around they seem to be cutting out the ‘of War’ part and are just simplifying the name. This time around Kait is the main character. Something is happening with her and she needs to leave and find help fast. What we saw in the reveal trailer shows her going back to where it all began in search of answers. Based on the trailer it looks as if this could be an interesting departure for a series desperately in need of a new direction. Hopefully this is the revitalization that the franchise needed.
