Give Us The Wii U Ports We Deserve!

It’s no secret that he Wii U was a colossal failure for Nintendo. What many people didn’t realize, considering how few units they moved, is how many great games actually released on the system. Thankfully their successor, the Switch, has been so successful that many of these games have already been released on Nintendo’s new console.

With the release of one of those gems this month, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, and Nintendo all but announcing that more Wii U ports are coming, we really started thinking about which games we’d still like to see the big N bring to the Switch. Admittedly, Tokyo Mirage Session #FE was near the top of that list so it’s great to see it coming soon!

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD:

To many people this was the standard for The Legend of Zelda series. The HD remake took an already beautiful game and made it even easier on the eyes. Considering Nintendo has already said that more Wii U games are coming to the Switch, it’s hard to imagined that Link’s toon adventure wouldn’t be on that list. I know that I would jump all over the opportunity to play this game again and for the first time have the ability to play it on the go.

Paper Mario Color Splash:

Though not the best game in the Paper Mario series, there was still a lot to love about Color Splash. Since there hasn’t been a Paper Mario game on The Switch it seems like a no brainer to port this one over and give more people the ability to play another one of Mario’s nearly forgotten adventures.

Star Fox Zero and Star Fox Guard:

Fox’s adventure on the Wii U was a pretty short standard Star Fox game, but the highlight here was the packed in bonus game, Star Fox Guard. Both of these games would be right at home on the Switch. The motion controls that the Wii U used for Zero could translate to the Switch and the highly underappreciated Guard would be a fun multiplayer experience on both the T.V. and handheld modes. While I didn’t put as much time into Zero as I expected, I put a lot of hours into the addicting gameplay of Guard and would love to revisit both.

Super Mario 3D World:

This was by far Mario’s best adventure on the Wii U, and maybe the best game using Nintendo’s favorite mascot over the course of both Wii consoles. Originally just a console sequel to a 3DS game, this became one of the absolute gems of the Wii U’s life span. While we’d love to see a proper sequel in time, a port of the original would be a welcome addition to the Switch.

Though the life span of Nintendo’s most significant failure didn’t allow for an extensive library, there are still plenty of incredible games that could find a new life on the Switch. We hope to see these games sooner than later!
