Maquette – PAX East 2020 Preview
Maquette is an inventive puzzle game about love.
The best part of Maquette is that it made me feel. The writing was genuine and felt believable, and the voice acting sounded authentic. It felt like I was peering into another world and hearing someone else’s story. Love is universal, but it’s also sometimes hard to capture. Even in my short time with Maquette I could see that Graceful Decay is making something special.
Maquette manages to wrap a puzzle game in a beautiful vibrant skin. Through lush greenery and magnificent architecture, the visuals were incredibly pleasing to the eye.
Maquette is still very much a puzzle game, despite its looks that say otherwise. In the center of the map is a model of the entire rest of the map in miniature form. If you move something in the miniature world it also moves in the bigger game world. The same principle applies the other way around. This made for some interesting problem solving that had a lot to do with the proportions of the objects. I would set a key down on the mini version of a bridge and a giant key would appear and allow me to advance in the regular sized world. This mechanic felt unique and made me think in an unconventional way.
Maquette doesn’t have a release date yet but we will eagerly be awaiting more information!
