Partisans 1941 – PAX East Preview
Partisans 1941 is a real time tactics game that combines stealth and action. How exactly you mix the stealth and action is entirely up to you. Set against the background of WWII, you control a squad of Russian soldiers and will have the option of picking your squad from eight different characters, each with their own skills and abilities. Some are more stealth heavy, some rely on action and, on a rare occasion, the character may be skilled in both areas.
As we mentioned, you can go in guns blazing or stick to the shadows and stealthily make your way across the map. How you choose to do this is entirely up to you. Using a mixture of both will help you be the most efficient and have the most fun.
Before each move you can plan out the path for all of your characters. One may hide behind some cover before coming around and flanking the enemies. Another may find a nice spot to snipe your foes, while another just breaks down the front door and goes in for the kill. Planning out each character’s path before the turn begins gives you a real sense of control without feeling like you have three characters to focus on simultaneously.
You can also link your characters’ oaths and abilities together so they can work together to really lay some hurt on the enemy.
One of the best features in the game is the ability to slow down time. During the slow down you can still be shot at and hit, but it’s a lot harder for that to happen. This adds some real depth to the gameplay. You’ll be able to plan out what you want to do a lot more effectively. Often in a game like this you can make some pretty big errors when you try to make decisions on the fly while everything is happening in real time around you. This is a game changer for the genre.
