Post-Scriptum: The Bloody Seventh – PAX East Hands On
Post-Sriptum: The Bloody Seventh recently released for PC and we had a chance to dive into this hyper realistic World War 2 first person shooter with the developer Periscope Games at PAX East.
This multiplayer focused shooter is set primarily during the events of Operation Market Garden during the ladder half of the second great war. While there is no campaign in the game, the settings, environments, and factions hone in on failed British military operation in the Netherlands.
Those familiar with simulation-based first person shooters like America’s Army and ARMA will find a nice fit in Post-Scriptum’s blunt realism. With 40 v. 40 multiplayer matches, players are required to work together to have any chance at victory. This is absolutely not a run and gun shooter – the developers sought to build a methodical and tactical war game and have definitely succeeded in that.
The depth in Post-Scriptum’s mechanics is quite imposing. The result of this is a steep learning curve that could make more casual players apprehensive. But, once players take the time to develop an understanding of what’s required to succeed, a rewarding team based experience is what you’ll get.
The game currently has nine large scale multiplayer maps – each ranging from four to eight square kilometers. Players can choose to be slotted in individual squads each with a specific purpose. Basic infantry classes have the most simple and accessible load outs. But if you want to pilot a tank or one of the games forty vehicles, you’ll need to be playing as the appropriate pilot class. There are also logistics based classes responsible for constructing fortifications, base building and managing supplies.
This hardcore first person competitive war simulation is out now on Steam. Post Scriptum already has a devoted following of players and modders meaning a lucrative community awaits anyone willing to take on its steep challenge and rewarding team based experiences.
