Shape of the World is unlike any game you’ll ever play in your life. From the creative mind of Stu Maxwell comes an exploration game that combines the right palette of colors and sound to make you not only play the game but feel it as well.
Players traverse the mind blowingly beautiful world in first person. As you move through the world, traveling from checkpoint to checkpoint, the world is formed around you based on your movements and interactions. The two options you have at your disposable come in the way of tossing seeds and touching objects. As you touch trees in succession you can move swiftly through the world as if you are floating whimsically from tree to tree. There are various monuments and items that you’ll find glowing throughout the world. If you touch all of them in a specific area you are rewarded in incredible ways. Our favorite during our play-through was a flight of stairs that led you high enough that you could fly around in the most beautiful sky you’ve ever seen.
As players progress through the check points, new beautifully colored locations will appear for them to explore, but you’ll find yourself taking your time before you walk through the checkpoints in order to take in as much of each area as you can. You’ll fly, walk under water, and stroll through the forest as the world is painted right before your eyes. It’s truly a site to behold and one that everyone must experience.
Stu said his vision was to create a world that you could explore after a long hard day of work and just relax. He went on to say that when you have a long hard day and want to play games, you don’t always want to have your skills tested to the max in a shooter or intense online experience. Shape of the World is the perfect answer to this. You can chill, you can relax, explore, or just enjoy the music. As Maxwell states it truly is a visual and oral feast that even borders on a sensual experience.
We’re incredibly excited for Shape of the World and can’t wait for its release in 2018 on PS4, Xbox One and Steam. For more coverage on Shape of the World and all things PSX related, keep checking back right here at Handsome Phantom.
