Skorecery – PAX East Preview
At its core, Skorecery seems like an incredibly simple game. You are a mage defending some runes from an enemy mage who is also guarding their runes. A small orb takes its place at center stage, and each player uses it to try and demolish all of the other player’s runes.
Fortunately, Skorecery seems to go much deeper than the base concept. For starters, you can grab the orb. Hold onto it for too long and your mage will be shocked and unable to move for a few seconds. Batting it back and forth like a complex game of pong gets a bit old until you realize that your mage can defy gravity and flip upside down, defending your side from the ceiling of the screen. You can still jump, deflect, and hold onto the orb from the ceiling, but now the bottom half of your screen is undefended. Mastering the up and down, back and forth nature of the game is quick and rewarding.
To further enhance the title, there are also different “curses” that can be toggled on and off, allowing players to customize their game further. While we only got to experience a few of these during our demo at PAX East, we saw that things like friendly fire, which allows players to accidentally destroy their own runes, dramatically changed the way the game is played. We’re sure that other such curses have similar drastic effects.
Skorecery is a local multiplayer title and is sure to entertain you and your friends for hours on end with both the base and plethora of other game modes included.
Skorecery releases April 4th for PS4 at the price point of $9.99.
