SteamWorld Quest – PAX East Preview
There was a time when the SteamWorld universe was a hidden gem to many gamers. That time has passed. Now, we know and love the SteamWorld Dig and SteamWorld Heist titles and consider them to be among the greats. When we heard about SteamWorld Quest, the new card-based title from Image & Form Games, we reached out to set up a private demo at PAX East.
SteamWorld Quest is set in the SteamWorld universe, but features characters we’ve never seen before. Players traverse through a world that is as rich, colorful, and exciting as any other in the title’s universe. There is lots of dialogue and all of it full of the charm and wit we’ve come to expect from the developer.
While traversing the overworld, players will soon encounter a variety of enemies. While you can hit sneak up behind them for a quick melee attack, battles soon turn into card-based combat. Your hand is filled with six cards with three needing to be used each turn. Each card is specific to a particular character and each character has different strengths and abilities.
SteamWorld Quest‘s combat system consists of choosing cards which either deal damage or give the player some sort of advantage over their foes. Each time you defeat an enemy your character gains experience points which help them level up.
SteamWorld Quest is set to be another huge hit from Image & Form and we’re looking forward to it in a big way.
