SUPERHOT VR (Oculus Quest) – Review Update
The following review is an update to our review of SUPERHOT VR, specifically highlighting the updates on Oculus Quest.
Since the date of our original review, SUPERHOT VR has blossomed into one of the biggest and best selling titles for virtual reality, and for good reason. As mentioned in our original review, it’s a title that not only must be played, but felt. Now, just under two years later, SUPERHOT VR is available on the Oculus Quest, and it’s better than ever.
Oculus Quest takes the game to the next level and makes it better in almost every way. The main hangup with our original review on PlayStation VR was the poor tracking on the device itself, leading to a sometimes frustrating experience. All of that is gone thanks to the inside out tracking on the Quest. It can’t be understated how much the lack of wires and the expanded play space improves the game, allowing you to fully immerse yourself. There are practically no issues trying to pick up weapons out of range, or taking an extra step to dodge a bullet. Quest’s pinpoint tracking accuracy has removed any complaint we once had in that regard. The larger the playspace the better. Our best experience was playing the game outside at dusk* with the maximum possible play area. Being freed from the small confines of the living room and being able to really walk around the world really added to the experience.
SUPERHOT VR is one of the best VR titles to date, and the Oculus Quest is the best place to play it. There are no noticeable compromises, and only improvements in the port. The game doesn’t include any new content for this release, but we still recommend it fully, even if you’ve already played it on another platform.
*It is not recommended to play your Oculus Quest outside due to direct sunlight potentially burning the screen through the lenses. We’d recommend only playing outside if there is no direct sunlight.
SUPERHOT VR was provided to the reviewer by the publishing company’s PR firm, but this fact did not alter the reviewer’s opinion
