Tetris Effect Effect Shines on PC – Review

The following review is an update to our review of Tetris Effect, specifically highlighting the updates on PC.

Releasing last year on PlayStation 4, Tetris Effect was instantly a new classic from Lumines and Rez creator Tetsuya Mizuguchi. It took a tried and true classic game and evolved it in to something new and fresh.. Tetris Effect isn’t just about how it plays, but how it feels. The overall experience was taken to another level through the included PlayStation VR mode, bringing the immersion to new heights. Now, less than a year later, Tetris Effect has landed on the PC and it’s somehow manged to become even more stunning.

The most notable improvement is the unlocked frame rate and resolution, allowing players to maximize the game to their personal setups. Running the game at an ultra smooth 144 frames per second in 1440p on our rig was an unreal experience. In addition, there are a wide range of graphical options to push the game much further than on PlayStation. There are an insane amount of particles and colors practically bursting off the screen on max settings, and it’s an incredible site to behold. Our system ran the game flawlessly.

The game also still supports VR on PC through the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. The improved graphics are also present in the VR mode, making it an even better experience than before. Though it wasn’t our overall preferred way to play due to the stunning resolution and frame rate of the standard mode, it still is a must play in VR at least a few times.

Tetris Effect is a masterpiece and is a game you absolutely can not skip. It sits confidently as the best version of the greatest puzzle game of all time. For a game that leans heavily into its visuals, the PC version is hands down the best place to play it.
