Tropico 6 Is Incredibly Consistent And Rewarding – Review (PC)

Tropico 6 looks as beautiful as the Caribbean seas it is set in, and runs as smoothly as a ship on those still waters. The aesthetics of the game create a feel for the beauty of the Caribbean, all the while allowing the player to test their strategizing and multitasking abilities. Whether you decide to be a ruthless dictator or revolutionary hero in each mission, Tropico 6 has a wonderful amount of challenges and exciting gameplay.

El Presidente, what will you decide to do?

Tropico 6 places the player in charge of deciding the fate of the Islands of Tropico, in both missions and in a creative sandbox world. The missions provide a plan that tells the story of El Presidente and Penultimo, his/her right hand man. These include their history together, rebelling against the crown, and much more. The plot is detailed enough to allow a guide for the story, yet vague enough that the player has input on the decisions as well.

Tropico 6 looks beautiful and runs just as well. The overlays provided to keep track of different resources and objectives is accurately portrayed without causing confusion with the geography of the islands. Each ship coming into port successfully shows freights incoming as well as pirate raids at a glance, in time with the game itself. The music and sound of the game is great, though a bit repetitive. Each unique sound can alert the player to specific occurrences in the game, allowing for a quick awareness of policy changes, imports, or other important messages as well.

One of the most impressive parts of this game is the extensive amount of variables the player must be aware of and accurately take care of as El Presidente – research, manufacturing, pirate raids, and construction, as well as politics, global and local economy, and much more. Through an equally extensive set of tutorials, the player will come to understand this gameplay thoroughly, as well as through multiple mission attempts; each mission provides a different set of guidelines that encourages the player to expand their multitasking abilities in strategic control of the islands of Tropico.

This multitasking ability is perfected in the design of the menus and goals for each variable. These menus are succinct and very straightforward, allowing for the enjoyment of the game right off the bat. Each menu also progresses and becomes more intricate and complex throughout the game, keeping the strategy new while increasing the demands and challenges on the player’s gameplay. A beginner to the Tropico series would easily be able to pick up this game and fully enjoy its gameplay and mechanics.

To succeed in each mission, or to successfully not bankrupt a sandbox game, the player must decide to choose a political path to follow that will determine a goal for trade and world diplomacy, while also keeping track of the unemployment rate, housing, transportation, fires, and more. If every single demand is followed in quick time, it is assured that the player will become bankrupt.

Though there is an easy mode in Tropico 6, this game is not for the casual strategy gamer. It is incredibly rewarding to successfully complete each mission while juggling the demands and quests that are prompted, while maintaining a positive bank account. With the advancement in eras, it becomes increasingly more difficult with each passing decision. Even in a failed mission, the knowledge gained in strategy with each fault creates more incentive to continue playing, and to beat it the next time.

Time is one of the hardest factors involved in successfully completing each mission in Tropico 6, This could be due to a need to renew the governor’s contract with the crown prior to emancipation from them, or it could be due to the profits being made in comparison to your construction. If close enough attention is not paid, it is incredibly easy to fail a mission for this reason, even on the easy mode. This is not a quick game, but more of a slow paced strategy game that allows the player to grow with each scenario they attempt. Patience is needed in the actual duration of each challenge, as well as for each goal to be completed and the citizens to successfully work to help El Presidente’s ideals to come to fruition.

We highly suggest this game for any fans of strategy games, even if they are new to the Tropico series. This game is not the easiest strategy game available, but it is definitely one of the most rewarding and consistently fun.
