Continuing the recent trend of remasters and remakes, Nightdive Studios has announced that they will be bringing their re-releases of Turok Dinosaur Hunter and Turok 2 Seeds of Evil to the Xbox One. Making a splash on the scene back on the Nintendo 64, Turok has never been able to reach that cult classic status since. After a few lackluster sequels over the past few generations, it’s time for a new generation of players to see what all the fuss was about some twenty years ago.
This is a huge win for Nightdive (who was in desperate need for one) after just last week letting all of their Kickstarter backers know that the remake of System Shock was going to be delayed for an undisclosed amount of time. Not only is it delayed, but the entire team has taken a break from the project.
Much like Bluepoint, Nightdive has been specializing in bringing older and sometimes more forgotten franchises back to life. They have been hard at work on the Turok franchise since 2015 and next month we will see the fruit of their labors. While expected on PC, the announcement of these games coming to Xbox One was a very pleasant surprise.
While not a complete remaster, both games are being redone for the Xbox one while keeping the all the textures and low rez characters that made the original releases so famous. Never a franchise to push the technical limits of any console that they released on they lack of polish helped to build into the cult lure that made them so famous. Look for Turok Dinosaur Hunter and Turok 2 Seeds of Evil to drop on March 2nd for $19.99 each. If you’ve never played either game or want to relive this piece of your gaming history make sure you pick them up and play them. Here’s hoping that a Rage Wars remake or sequel is on the horizon as well.
