Wattam – Preview (PAX East 2018)

Wattam is a wacky and whimsical game.

Wattam is a wacky and whimsical game from Keita Takahashi and developer Funomena.

Much like real life, Wattam is about making friends. You start off as a green cube with arms and a top hat who appears to be the mayor. The controls are simple and you are given very little direction. This is actually a part of the game’s charm. It’s relaxing and silly, but in a good way.

After walking around for a while as the mayor you’ll came across a stone. Upon flipping the stone over you’ll find that it isn’t a stone at all, it was a person. After befriending the stone your adventure begins as you head out hand in hand on your adventure.

We soon came across a much bigger stone which we found out we could befriend as well. At this point on the screen you see a green cube with a top hat holding hands with a tiny stone and a huge boulder. It is very adorable and you’ll find yourself laughing multiple times while playing this game. The longer you play, the more and more outrageously cute it becomes. Before you know it you’re playing as a nose sniffing flowers out of the ground trying to hold hands with them. After that, you’re a mouth eating friends and pooping them out. Next you actually play as that poop. During my play-through I attempted to stack myself and other poops on top of each other to help out a bowling pin.

Are you confused yet? Honestly this game is best played and not described. From my short time with the game it seems like there is no limit to the objects you can befriend. Everything in the game has a fun face and a hand to hold.

We are looking forwarding to this games release sometime in 2018. Keep it locked on Handsomephantom.com for updates on it later this year.
